JQuery Navigation Idea, what would be the best way to do this.?

I’m created a website and I would like to implement a navigation with Jquery instead of Flash. The effect I’m going for is a blue text image sliding down (outside of the overflow) then coming back up as a different color (orange for this example). Knowing little about Jquery, I was thinking on making this a sprite image in the background where the top image would be a blank state where no text resides, 2nd image would be the roll off text (blue text), 3rd image would be a blank state where no text resides, and 4th image would be the roll over state (orange text). Then use Jquery to snap the background to the appropriate blank state then animate the text upward. Would this be the best way of accomplishing the task?

yeah, you could do it like that. if you ever want to stay away from images completely you could do the following:

on hover make the nav slide away by animating margin-top or margin-bottom; while hidden change the background color of the nav; then animate the nav back up.

just an idea
