How to make a username and password validation with Javascript/jQuery, and AJAX?

I want to make a VERY SIMPLE website that does require a login. The login info will be stored in a 2 column xml document that i personally will edit and update online. All I want the script to do is validate the login with the xml file, then undo the document.write(‘
